Afternoon at the Lake

4x6 oil on board

Does this little painting capture the melancholy mood of an afternoon alone at the lake?

Nature has a way of wordlessly presenting the poetry of human moods in all their infinite variations.

DPW Pick of the day

Just found some nice news from David Marine at DPW my painting "Juicy Slice" is a "pick of the day".

Thank you, David

I'm still such a beginner at posting on DPW so it is truly encouraging to have one of my paintings chosen.

Start where you are and take a step...

"Rainy Day - Going Home"
Oil on paper
6x8"

It seems appropriate to start this blog with one of my most recent daily paintings especially since the theme of this painting so perfectly reflects what I am feeling as I begin blogging:  stimulated by the pleasure and confusion of sensory input, yet seeking the comfort and orderliness of a familiar home.
I have never done a blog before and sometimes you simply start where you are and then move on.

This painting sold immediately when I posted it on Facebook and received one of the finest compliments I could hope for.  The new owner said he loved it so much because "it feels like it is happening."
And that, too, makes it the perfect place to start since, in all my work, large or small, landscape, still life or abstract, my goal is always less about the accurate depiction of "reality" and far more about capturing the energy.  So the work, even when it's diminutive, always feels like an adventure.

I'd love to have you come along for the ride, or pop in to visit from time to time.  And I'd love to hear from you.
